My selection of these six images, titled Uncontrived, was inspired by candid photographs of unaware people. The pictures were shot in the United States, Italy, Vatican City State, and Poland all within the 2016-2017 academic school year.
I decided to combine these photographs into a body of work because ever since I got my hands on my first digital camera in 2009, I have been snapping photos of people. To capture the specific essence of a person in that exact moment can be difficult. Most individuals are used to having their photo taken, but often times put on a fake or posed smile for these pictures. When taking a candid of somebody, we can see further in to what that individual was possibly thinking or feeling at the time the image was taken. This offers a more accurate representation of the person at that specific time. I believe that a viewer of an image can connect to a photograph on an intrinsically meaningful level if they have the ability to fill in the blanks that might not necessarily be spelled out in the image.
